Bloomologie – a floral success story

In the heart of Lee Green nestles a garden full of flowers which may well end up in your special bouquet.  The flowers are grown by Ali Billenness, whose floristry company Bloomologie, is expanding rapidly.

Ali, a former journalist, found herself gradually drawn towards flowers – first growing them, then arranging them and finally turning them into a business selling exquisite bouquets.

She specialises in English flowers and her arrangements always contain flowers that are in season.  This week she has scabious, English peonies and snapdragons.  Stocks, cornflowers, foxgloves and sweet pea are also favourites.  “Even mallow, helibores, and philadelphus work well in bouquets”, she says.  And what about in deep winter?  “It’s amazing what you can find when you look.”

Ali used to have a market stall but she says bouquets bought to order are “where the market is”.  Having launched the business locally, she’s about to start selling nationwide.  “People do still send flowers!” she jokes.  She also does a subscription service – 6 monthly bouquets cost £175.  Not cheap, but a wonderful special present.

You may spot Ali in her Bloomologie van with her two children Henry, 4, and Florence, 6, who accompany her on deliveries.  Henry does little arrangements as an added bonus for customers.Bouquets cost from £30 to £60.  At the weekend you can buy bunches of Ali’s flowers from Home in Lee Road where she has her studio.

Ali also holds very popular workshops.  The next one is Blooming British Flowers Week bouquet, 26 June 7-9pm at Home Cafe, 121 Lee Road, Blackkeath SE3.

There are more to come which you can find on her website where you can also flowers http://www.bloomologie.co.uk/welcome/
