Lewisham Council to address lamentable record on recycling

Garden waste collections start in June

At the end of last year the borough of Lewisham was named as bottom of a list of London’s worst boroughs for recycling with only 17 per cent of waste being reused, recycled or composted.  And that wBrown binas a 0.6 per cent drop on 2014.

The council has now been shamed into action with a new weekly garden waste collection starting in June.

If you sign up you’ll get a brown bin in June which will be collected weekly.  The full cost is £60 a year but the council is offering an introductory fee of £45.

What can you put in your brown bin?

  • grass
  • leaves
  • twigs
  • hedge trimmings
  • weeds
  • flowers
  • plants
  • fallen fruit
  • house flowers
  • branches no more than 10cm thick and 50cm long
  • cut-up Christmas trees

Nothing too heavy and NO Japanese knotweed.

You can also buy a compost bin for a tenner.

It’s got to be better than a schlep to Landmann Way.
