Manor House Gardens News- Sign our petition to keep the park keepers

URGENT NOTICE:
MANOR HOUSE GARDENS UNDER THREAT.

PLEASE JOIN OUR GROUP TO HELP SUPPORT OUR HISTORICAL PARK. WE ARE AN AWARD WINNING COMMUNITY GROUP RUN BY VOLUNTEERS. MONIES RAISED WILL BE USED TO HELP FIGHT THE CUTS AND CONTINUE WITH ENHANCEMENT PROJECTS.

We are trying to prove our weight in negotiations with the council as such we will be in a better position if we have a large membership. Please consider joining us, it is only £10 per year ( £5 concessions) and you get 10% discount on food and drinks at Pistachios in Manor House Gardens. All proceeds go towards park projects and enhancements eg: we run a free festival every year but it costs money to put on and we had to provide £1,500 matched funding towards the playground redevelopment. You can pick up forms in pistachios in the park, or the library, or email us to send you a form.

We currently have a petition which is garnering a lot of support as well as soon to be getting local coverage in the  newspaper. Please sign it and forward http://chn.ge/1ATQ8vN?recruiter=176404874
It would be great if we could get to 500 signatories by the end of the weekend. We currently have 428 signatures and its going strong.

Here is a note from our Chairman Paul Lowndes

After 15 years of investment and improvement, Manor house Gardens is in good shape. However it is in a serious risk of slipping back into decline, as it did in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Without adequate maintenance, Manor House Gardens will become underused, neglected and vandalised. The immense social and environmental value is quickly eroded and it soon becomes a costly liability for the whole community.

Over the next 3 years Lewisham parks maintenance budgets will be reduced even further. This is on top of the deep cuts that have already made in the last 3 years. Static Park Keepers and gardeners are next in line, with local knowledge and skills lost and this will have a direct impact on safety.

However, we know that local people love Manor House Gardens. We know that Manor House Gardens is vital for our health and wellbeing and drives the growth of the local economy and property prices.

Our calls to action include:
– Renewed commitment from Lewisham council
– Establishing new partnerships with other user groups
– Getting our community more involved
– Developing new finance models and rethinking delivery

Together we can avert this return to the past but it will require the concerted effort of all those who use, live near or have an interest in Manor House Gardens.

Please sign the petition. We are not acting alone we are in consultation with the
Lewisham Parks Forum and the other users groups in Lewisham. Please sign and share Click here
