New council homes proposed for Burnt Ash Hill

In response to the on-going housing crisis across London, Lewisham Council has established a programme to build new council homes, with the aim of starting 500 new homes by 2018. Lewisham Homes will be working in partnership with the Council to deliver a number of developments across the borough.

One of the potential sites for new council homes is in Lee Green, on Burnt Ash Hill. This is the site of what is now the Mayfield Hostel. The Council is looking at this option because the current hostel building does not make the best use of the site it sits on, and is surrounded by land which presents an opportunity for developing new homes for people in need.

Lewisham Homes says, “While we don’t yet have fixed plans, we do think that if this site is taken forward it would lend itself to being developed using new modern methods of construction which have potential to speed up the development process considerably, minimising disruption to neighbours.”
